DeSantis, Haley should self-deport
Their respective pledges to pardon Trump who exhibits every malevolent trait known to the human species for ulterior political motives gives "contemptible" new meaning.
Donald Trump exhibits every evil, sordid, malevolent trait known to the human species leaving nothing to be admired: lawless, avaricious, cruel, violent, vulgar, perfidious, unfaithful, narcissistic, ruthless, mendacious, deceitful, ignorant, bigoted, racist, misogynistic, and megalomaniacal. Trump is a clear and present danger to civilization itself. He is pre-Neanderthal.
Nothing is more important to saving the Republic than punishing Trump for crimes of which he may be convicted in accord with due process of law and separation of powers. Rome did not long survive the crimes of Nero, Caligula, and Claudius.
Yet Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis have both pledged to pardon Trump for crimes of which he is found guilty because they believe the convictions would prove politically divisive. But political divisiveness is no defense to criminal conduct. Further, Haley and DeSantis would leave the hundreds of convictions of Trump’s January 6th foot soldiers—including sentences of up to 18 years in prison—undisturbed. What kind of obtuse justice let’s the ringleader off while his minions rot in jail? Additionally, Haley and DeSantis are sending a signal to politicians that they can commit crimes with impunity by recruiting or assembling a threshold of violent fanatics who would protest any prosecution.
Can anything be more reckless, alarming, or contemptible?
Haley and DeSantis combine infinite ignorance with philosophical emptiness—a deadly mixture for the rule of law.
Let the two self-deport to diminish their danger to the United States. To borrow from Sydney Carton in A Tale of Two Cities, it would be a far, far better thing that they would do than they have ever done.
