Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are intellectual blather
DEI has nothing to say about Pi, Archimedes theorem or separation of powers, among other things
Education without mastering reading, writing, speaking, computing, philosophy, and critical thinking is like the play Hamlet without the Prince of Denmark.
Education, however, has descended to that level of brainlessness which finds expression in our immoral, egotistical, idiocracy.
DEI programs fuel that descent. They are preoccupied not with learning but with the ascriptive characteristics of the learners carrying the insulting insinuation that all members of groups think alike, a throwback to feudalism and social hierarchy. The subtext of DEI is that individuals are not captains of their souls and masters of their fate. Their lives are predestined based on the happenstance of birth, i.e., gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, or tribe. Further, knowledge and wisdom pivot on ascriptive characteristics.
But what is equitable, inclusive, or diverse about Pi, Newton’s laws of motion, Madison’s separation of powers, Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, Pericles’ Funeral Oration, or Boswell’s Life of Johnson? Wisdom, genius, and knowledge transcend the ascriptive. Otherwise, they would would be fool’s gold.
Education that will preserve and enrich civilization rather than kill it consists of inculcating one simple precept in all students: Tirelessly search for truth and justice without ulterior motives and act accordingly as the summum bonum of life. Everything else is a footnote.
