How to live the life of a billionaire on a government salary.
Next anticipated book by Justice Clarence Thomas featuring a handsome advance
Legendary author Horatio Alger lacked imagination. His trademark narratives chronicled the lives of impecunious boys rising from humble origins to middle-class security and comforts through unsparing good works.
Justice Clarence Thomas, a marquee member of the Horatio Alger Association, puts Horatio Alger heroes to shame.
As meticulously reported by Pro Publica (“Clarence Thomas’ 38 Vacations: The Other Billionaires Who Have Treated the Supreme Court Justice to Luxury Travel,” August 10, 2023), Justice Thomas has lived the ultra-opulent life of royalty, since his dizzying ascent to the High Court, showered with munificent in kind gifts by billionaires Harlan Crow, David Sokol, H. Wayne Huizenga, and Paul “Tony” Novelly. Exemplary have been far-flung vacations aboard their yachts, premium suites at coveted sporting events, and private jets, including on one occasion, an entire 737. Year after year after year for three decades.
None of Justice Thomas’ four billionaire benefactors befriended him before his elevation to the apex of the nation’s judiciary. None exhibit any interest in Justice Thomas interpretive doctrines. They are not intellectuals. They covet access to Justice Thomas to bolster their social status. Similarly, Donald Trump implied he chased after the presidency because “nobody knows” his “rich friends.”
Justice Thomas, with admirable courage and grit, managed effortlessly to segue from quiet vacations touring the country in modest RVs sleeping in Walmart parking lots to cosseting by billionaires relishing every creature comfort known to the species. No Horatio Alger hero ever did that!
Justice Thomas is an earmark of the decadent culture of the United States more rebarbative than Sodom and Gomorrah. If the Justice had any sense of decency, he would resign forthwith. A Justice, like Caesar’s wife, should be above suspicion.
But don’t hold your breath. If Diogenes were alive, he would still be looking for a single honest person in the corridors of power.
