King Charles III's coronation, the Kentucky Derby, professional boxing, and feeding Christians to the lions in the Roman Colosseum
Does the species deserve to survive
Injustice is pandemic. The strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must is the hormonal narrative of the species. We are endowed with cerebral faculties—as wonderful as winning a lottery ticket—to diminish injustice and to master hormonal lusts through exhortation and example.
This truth is as undeniable as the force of gravity.
Why then does the species squander time on brainless royal coronations, mindless horse racing, watching one human seeking to turn another human’s brain into pulp, or, in earlier times, guffawing at Christians fed to hungry lions in the Roman Colosseum? It is because the vast majority let their cerebral faculties lie dormant throughout their lives.
This appalling phenomenon has earmarked the species from the beginning of evolution. Species narcissism prevents us from asking and answering the Ultima Thule question: Does the species deserve to exist more than lions, tigers, and starfish?
Uhhh, no. Next question?
