They deserve federal protection because they safeguard the First Amendment right of political association and free and fair elections—the touchstone of government by the consent of the governed.
Accordingly, Congress should criminalize any actions or words intended in whole or in part to chill, deter, or discourage, or influence poll workers in the exercise of their official duties.
Elections are too important to be left to the law of the jungle or to AK-47s.
