Trump is not a king

Must face trial over inciting attack on the Capitol to prevent Vice President Pence from counting state-certified electoral votes under the 12th Amendment and Electoral Count Act

Minutes ago, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit issued an opinion rejecting Donald Trump’s surreal fantasy that he was constitutionally immune from criminal prosecution for any acts performed during his presidency, for example, assassinating political opponents or sexually molesting children on the White House lawn. Not a single word or even syllable in the Constitution’s text suggests such monarchical immunity. Indeed, the American Revolution was largely a revolution against the tyrannical doctrine that the king can do no wrong in favor of the rule of law as king.

What is equally if not more frightening is that Trump’s claim to kingship is not far from the officially and popularly accepted doctrine that the President is constitutionally empowered to play prosecutor, judge, jury, and executioner to kill any person on the planet who is suspected of carrying the potential of becoming a national security threat sometime in the future based on secret, unsubstantiated star gazing with no accountability or transparency with Congress, the Supreme Court, or the American people. In other words, every person in the world lives at the indulgence of the President of the United States! None dare call it the absolutism of Russia’s Putin or China’s Xi.

The Constitution is either dead or on life support. No worse ingratitude can be exhibited to the Founding Fathers.
