Ukraine's President Zelensky should be careful what he wishes for over the U.N. Security Council
The United States would lose its veto power ahead of Russia
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky bugled for Russia to lose its veto power in the U.N. Security Council for violating Ukraine’s sovereignty. The Ukrainian President indicated that loss of the veto should be the penalty for any nation that attacks another.
Thereby hangs a tale of Zelensky’s cluelessness.
Under his standard, the United States should have lost its veto power in the Security Council long ago for attacking or participating as a co-belligerent attacks against Cuba, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen.
International law has been frozen since the time of Thucydides: the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.
